My two nieces Jane and Arlene burnt mid night oil to help me design the cover,
What is the book about? It talks about the Japanese occupation 1942-1945.
Location Kwong Tung Bar from Sibu to Kanowit.

Why have I chosen this: It is where I am from, and The Brooke Govt had a rice mill at the Tai Kuon school aka Upper Lanang road camp, The Japanese set up a camp there to use the mill, and Captain Roger Chieng aka Fong came down from Kapit to the Tai Kuon Camp.

Finally, My Ah Kung and Ah Pa lived 10 minutes from the camp and were eye witnesses to the surrender of the Japanese at Tai Kuon Camp.

NZCA WOMEN’S GROUP

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, 17th October 2015,  1.30pm at the Meadowbank Community Centre, 29 St Johns Road, Meadowbank  (next to Barfoot & Thompson).
We have a speaker by the name of Ginette Wang, who is an artist in many forms from a very young age.  During her stay in Hong Kong, while working with her western painting media, she fell in love with the subtlety, immediacy, and the expressive characteristic of the Chinese painting.  Her artworks centre around beautiful landscapes, birds and flowers. She uses a direct approach with this challenging medium and sometimes applies cross medium skills to portray a tranquil and zen feeling with a touch of life in play that nature inspires to her. Her paintings are in private collections locally and overseas. She has been teaching art/language/craft for many years at Hong Kong YWCA for English speaking members and her own studio.  Now she teaches at Mairangi Arts Centre and organize her own workshops.   http://ginettewang.blogspot.co.nz/
She will also be demonstrating and showing us the intricate art of Chinese watercolour and ink painting.
Please come along and bring friends, men are also welcome to enjoy a fun and social afternoon.
Afternoon tea will be served, new members are always welcomed.

Update on Chinese fruit shops project

Update on Chinese fruit shops project

Many of you will be aware that the Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust has commissioned a book on Chinese fruit shops in New Zealand. Since starting the project in August 2014, we have made good progress. Thank you to those who have already sent in your story or have been interviewed.
To ensure that this significant part of New Zealand Chinese history is not lost, we need your help. There is still time to participate if you act now. Talk to family members, find some photos and write down your memories. If you already have a questionnaire that is waiting to be filled in, do it now and get it back to us. If you prefer to talk to us, let us know and we can arrange to interview you.
The deadline for receiving stories is 31 December 2015. Don’t leave it too late and regret it.
